This year's Hawgsmoke A-10 bombing and gunnery competition, held during October, was hosted by the 2006 winners from the 303^rd Fighter Squadron , 442^nd Fighter Wing,  based at Whiteman Air Force Base, Missouri. The biennial event, competed for this year by 14 four-man teams, was held at Salina, Kansas with the bombing and gunnery phase of the competition taking place at the Smoky Hill Range. The 190^th Fighter Squadron, 124^th Wing, from the Idaho Air National Guard based at Boise International Airport were crowned Hawgsmoke 2008 champions and will therefore host the next event in 2010.
